Make S'mores by the Fireplace
I remember making these by the fire as a kid when my family went camping. My brother was an animal; he'd just slap a marshmallow on a stick, ignite it, and consume. No style at all. I, on the other hand, would take the extra time for perfectly-browned ones - crispy on the outside and oh-so-gooey on the inside. If mom was on the ball she'd have the chocolate already laid-out for me on a graham cracker, ready to receive the perfect marshmallow. Then I'd place another one on top and gently squeeeeeze the marshmallow flat, thus melting the chocolate without any breakage. Perfect.
After 3 or 4 of these things I'd be bouncing around the campground like a little maniac, begging to go exploring or for a late-night swim. Mom generally refused these requests unless I was being particularly annoying, then she might just shake her head and mumble "Have fun." A few hours later, the campfire reduced to embers, I'd stagger back to the tent in a sugar-induced haze and collapse. Now that's living.
But campfires and OCD kids aren't necessary to enjoy s'mores. Why not pick up the fixins and make a few in the fireplace tonight? Put on some music, tell a ghost story or two, and share memories about all the fun you had making them as a kid.Copyright © 2009-2012 LivLuv. All Rights Reserved.
